08-30-05 -- Daily NECA 2005 New Orleans Update #2

We are continuing to monitor the situation in New Orleans. We are aware that much of the information coming out of the city is discouraging; however, it is difficult to get reliable information about the specific facilities and infrastructure essential to NECA’s events, Sept. 16-20. True to our contractors’ nature, we cannot “abandon the job” until we have all the facts. We will continue to offer daily updates until a decision is made, and we hope to have the necessary information to make such a decision before week’s end.

The attention of the city is focused on securing the public health, safety, and welfare of her citizens. Our thoughts are with these residents and their rescuers, including our own NECA members currently working to restore power to the city.

In the meantime, you can watch Steve Schultz, NECA’s Executive Director of Convention/Exposition, on ABC’s World News Tonight speaking on the uncertainty of NECA’s plans in New Orleans and how the disaster will impact organizations outside of the Gulf Coast area.
